TAHOE JACK’S – WINTER EDUCATION

AVALANCHE COURSE

With so many winter activities throughout Lake Tahoe and the surrounding regions, it is no surprise that each year new stories arise of avalanche victims.  Lake Tahoe is home to a variety of snowpack.  As a result avalanche terrain is common place throughout it’s surrounding wilderness.  Our avalanche course is geared towards identifying avalanche areas, stability assessment, route-finding, metamorphism and layering, as well as rescue techniques deployed in the event of an avalanche.  This course provides a framework with regards to risk management, safety assessments of the designated travel area, types and characteristics of avalanches and the rescue equipment utilized.

Terrain Assessment

Learn to assess your surroundings, identify avalanche areas, find routes, and stay out of harms way.

On Site Training

Snowpack Conditions

Understand the fundamentals of snow layering and how to test snowpack conditions.

Certified Instructors

All of our avalanche instructors have gone through extensive avalanche training and spend countless hours in Lake Tahoe’s backcountry to ensure you are getting up to date hands on instruction.

Our season dates are dependent and fluctuate with Lake Tahoe’s diverse weather cycles. However, our standard operational season runs as follows.  Please feel free to book in advance.

Detailed directions to each adventure location are provided via email upon booking confirmation to ensure all participants have a hard copy.  As with all of Tahoe Jack’s Adventures it is the participants responsibility to arrive at the designated start point on time for all of our excursions.
